I have both 105/2.8 and 105/4 and I would personally recommend the 105/4. The 105/2.8 needs to be stopped down to f6.5 for best results anyway so that extra glass makes no good use. Get a PN-11 to go with the 105/4 and you're set to go. |
hm, cheers |

caps are totally 100% mint, ive never owned such a pristine front-cap from this era as this example
lens itself seems fine, a little dusty which is to be expected
couple of extremely fine scratches on rear element tho
nothing fatal spotted so far |

i picked up the rf S mount model for a song early last year and its been glued to my m4/3 camera as a really amazing 200mm. i couldnt be more pleased with the rendering and the combo with the small m4/3 is so light and portable--impossible to duplicate on another format. _________________ Epson RD1 + Elmarit 21/2.8; Summarit 50/1.5; Summarit 75/2.5; Elmar-c 90/4; Sankyo Komura 135/2.8, Hektor 135/4.5; Braun Paxina 29 6x6; Photax Boyer Paris; Holga 120 Pano

Sometimes you can stumble across a Canon Serenar 100/4 for reasonable -- as I did at a second hand shop a few years ago. Paid $20 for it. Came with the finder too!
As for the 105/2.5 Nikkor, I've always regarded it as just about a perfect portrait lens. Sure, it may not be tack sharp wide open, but honestly do you want a tack sharp portrait lens anyway?
Mine is a middling-years pre-Ai, near as I recall. It has the metal focusing collar but a black barrel. It has the metal hood and the correct period caps. Plus it was AI'd by Nikon, which makes it more useful. I've been quite satisfied with its wide-open sharpness, but stopped down a few stops and it is just remarkable. I bought mine over 20 years ago in close to mint condition and I don't recall what I paid for it anyway. But one such as mine can probably be had for around $100 nowadays, which I'm pretty sure is less than what I paid for it over 20 years ago. _________________ Michael

might be some limb breakage on the Heath tomorrow, i'm planned to walk across it to the Farmers' Market, or i might chase my favorite swan family
i.ve got the HN-7 hood on it for now, no builtinhood on this variant
i'm not sure whether the clipon or screwin hood is best, tbh
or a folding-rubber, to absorb knocks |

been a bit unwell recently, that bits' over for now tho, got out on Hampstead Heath yesterday
i needed to try the 105mm 2.5 .. on a body i also just picked up, a used Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 with all the previous owners settings and hacked firmware -- Sanity 5.1
the GH2 has quite a few mature hacks available, mostly for its video capabilities, but i'm exploring / adjusting the stills settings, apparently he didnt use 'other' lenses and he didnt shoot RAW
altogether a very different camera, as im discovering
the ponds on the Heath support at least one family of swans, these 2 white ones seem smaller but they may be the parents
im pretty sure the one watching me is the male
a bit further along the bank were 2 younger ones
and only 2, tho there were 5 or 6 last year
