I continue to be a bit taken with this lens.

Both images at ISO 64 and f8, with Nikon L-37-C filter.

100% crop of lower left corner from the image above.
Contrast is a shade low- very overcast with wildfire smoke here.

A flower at minimum focus distance and f8.

100% crop of center from image above.

This lens performs well, as long as it's stopped down, and away from bright light sources.

Looks good to me. How does it compare against the Nikkor (ai) 50/2 in your opinion?

I'm not sure there is a bad Nikkor lens. Although I have no experience with their zooms of that era.

This is becoming a grey area for me now. I still prefer the contrast accuracy of the old K-based 50/2.
The 50/1.4 A/i-s certainly does provide quality images, and focuses a bit closer.

Thinking of doing an extreme conditions contrast test when there's snow on the ground, but the weak point the f1.4 lens is the way it glows a bit in bright sunlit snow scenes. There seems to be a continual trade-off between the two lenses, and I am keeping both.
