I bought a Nikkor 85 mm f/1.4 in BGN condition (the barrel is battered, but the glass is OK).

Here´s some wide open samples with full frame body (D700).

Very nice, an 85/1.4 is top of my wish-list just now.

This is one of those Nikkors which focus by moving the whole lens assembly (as a group), therefore optical performance greatly benefits from CLA (Cleaning, Lub & Adjustment) as near and infinity affect both vignetting, CA and sharpness.

Markku, I really recommend you have this lens serviced by mr. Vatanen at Kamera-Apu (former Nikon Finland service chief), I see performance in your images which is not up to the standard of what my own Nikkor 85/1.4 Ai-S delivers wide open. He superbed my own copy for what he told me will cost 60 to 90 EUR depending on condition of lens, turned out 60 EUR was all that was needed.

i see some CA in the first, moderate in the second. The third is free of CA for me.

The lens is excellent, also wide open! But, with the standard built-in focusing screen of the modern DSRL cameras, it is difficult to focus manually! Furthermore, the AF lives from the DOF and might not be accurate enough for the f/1,4 use. For precise focusing there are some very good but expensive foreign focusing screens available.

Nice! I just bought one of these myself, in excellent condition. No need for CLA for this, thankfully. I just wish I could get out and use it.

Yes, I must do that. I have already have two lenses CLA´d by Mr Vatanen, and I hope that they will deliver for the next 40 years. Smile
