Has anyone compared these two lenses side by side?

Their prices in used are comparable, while Nikkor can still be obtained brand new....

Obviously, I'd like to shoot wide open with these... Which one would you choose and why?

It'd be great if you have comparing samples of both.

thanks -

No direct comparison but nothing beats the Rokkor for "bokeh".

I doubt they have significant difference in sharpness, I have 50mm f1.2 and I had Nikkor in past. Bokeh is matter of your preference and knowledge of shooting, A people can't make good bokeh shoot with any lens B people can do with any Smile I did like a lot Nikkor creamy , smooth bokeh. Now I like Minolta , due I saw many shoots from my friends from Asia and they have black belt from bokeh shooting. I like to have any of these lenses.

I have the older Nikkor 55/1.2 and the Rokkor 58/1.2 and the Nikkor is way sharper wide open. Stopped down a bit and they are both sharp. The Nikkor 50/1.2 is supposed to be sharper than the 55/1.2, but the Rokkor is all about the bokeh.

I have a flickr set testing Nikkor AIS 50mm f/1.2

IMHO the bokeh is very nice for close shots.

The Minolta has a bit longer focal length, but the Nikkor can focus closer (50cm vs 60cm). Both are excellent lenses.

I think they are equal. Both have to be stopped 1 stop down to get real smooth bokeh.

From a different perspective, do you feel Rokkor 58 1.2 is a bit overrated ? Or will it make a huge difference over a Canon FD 50/1.4 or Zuiko 50/1.4, wide open?

I had read the NOCT and Rokkor share similarities in design, with the exception of the asphere surface. Do they have similar bokeh?

Hello

did someone test the olympus or rokkor 50mm 1.4 vs 1.2 please ?

I have read that the Rokkor 58/1.2 and MC Rokkor 50/1.4 PG have same optical formula, but of course the latter is shorter and slower.
