Went for a drive yesterday through this town near Niagara Falls, Canada. It is a wine region, where they also grow a lot of peaches, cherries and other fruits. It's a tourist area as well, and the town itself has lots of historic buildings and bed-and-breakfast places.

One of the grape rows.

Same shot cropped in.

Old fort on the American side of the Niagara River.

Overlooking the river to the United States.

Nice shots Cathy. How are you getting to grips with the aperture?

Rbelyell, did you stop at any of the vineyards for a wine tasting? My husband and I did that before our children were born, and it was very interesting, and a lot of fun.

It's beautiful country along there, at any time of the year. In the spring all the blossoms from the fruit trees are so pretty, and in the summer everything is so full and lush, and in the fall the colours are amazing.

We only live about an hour and a bit from the Falls, so we are fortunate that we can go for day trips.

Did you notice all the big old homes along the parkway overlooking the river? I have always thought it would be an amazing place to live. Smile

Martinsmith99, actually I cannot get my manual focus lenses to work at apertures other than wide open. Embarassed

The camera never seems to meter for the other aperture I'm trying to set it to and the photos are always distorted. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Confused

yes, we did stop at a couple of wineries, including one for lunch, which was wonderful. and yes,the homes were amazing.

about your mf lens problem: i thought you solved that and were able to stop down the lenses? what camera are you using? you need to set the camera in aperture priority mode, set the camera aperture to the maximum possible ( the lowest number) and leave it there. set the camera to manual focus and you should be a go!

Well, I thought I understood how to do it. But when I actually tried it out, it didn't work. Sad

I'm using a Canon 450D/Xsi. I put the camera in aperture priority mode. I open it up as wide as possible. I focus it. And it takes photos fine wide open.

But if I try to move the aperture ring on the lens to change it to something else, the photos don't turn out. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

hey cathy

i found this in one of my threads on setting my 5d for focus confirmation w mf lenses. maybe it will help:
after much, much, much experimentation i found that to achieve autoconfirm i had to change the following C-Fn settings: 04 set to 0; 16 set to 0. it seems both those need to be set.

i would try this and see what happens. if nothing, go through your C-Fn settings and see if any of them might effect the cameras performance in regard to your problem. if nothing works, i would post a thread listing specifically your camera model and asking for help in setting it up.

Tony, I have to admit that I am lost. I don't know what settings you are talking about. Embarassed I'm a real novice.

I'll see if I can find something like this in my manual. Though I'm nervous about changing settings, I'm always afraid I'm going to mess something up permanently, lol.

It's probably just 'me' anyways and not the camera. I always catch on quickly when someone physically shows me how to do something. But when it comes to electronics or other technical things it just doesn't seem to stick when I only read about it on my own.

I really appreciate all the help and suggestions though!

Calm. Any configuration change is not permanent.
Please select:(Menu - C.Fn) AF/Bloqueo AE & Sure displacement in AE/TV, deactivated.
In my 5D works anyway.
Try to shoot in M (manual) And you guide by the exposure meter.
Good luck
