Hi all, newly joined I have an M42 adapter for my Sony NEX, and I have just got 3 MF lenses a Vivitar series 1 70-210mm a Miranda 28mm wide angle and a Sigma mini-tele 135mm f35. Could anyone help me re the adapter for these lenses.

Hi welcome to the forum.
The info of the lenses you provide are not sufficient to know which adapters they require, to know it must be known in which mount your lenses come. The Miranda might have Miranda Bajonett, not sure if there is a Miranda > E mount adapter available.

All three of those lenses could come in the popular lens mounts, but adapters for NEX are easily available for just about every lens. Ebay has the best selection, but in the UK 'Jack The Hat Photographic' and 'SRB Griturn' have the popular ones on their websites.

The guide on KEH is very good. Some mounts are pretty similar. If you are unsure, post here the rear photos of your lenses.

I think so, more comprehensive too considering all the weird and wonderful lens mounts we have between us.

With MFlenses' excellent google presence it could attract more visitors.

shows dozens of lens mounts and a click will show you what camera they can be used on. By no means complete but its a great start.

The only problem is the flat photography and lighting making it difficult to see the exact shape. I'm sure we can do better.

Some mounts are pretty easy to identify but some are not. We could post more details about the dimensions and special features of some frequently misidentified mounts.

I find the systems/brands that have changed their mounts are the hardest to work out without visually seeing the differences.I am talking about the Canon,Minolta and Nikon brands.

The manual SLR lens mount of Canon(R,FL,FD,nFD), Minolta(SR/MC/MD) and Nikon(F,AI,AI-s) are not changed but under continuous revisions over time. There may be some difficulties to identify the exact mount. However, adapters for most digital cameras should works with all lenses from the same brand. For example, the Canon FD to NEX adapter will accept all R,FL,FD and nFD lenses.

I have kept away from the Canon R lenses because I have read somewhere some will not work but also that some will on a given adapter. I guess this is how we buy cheaper lenses, because we should know what lens we are buying and can it work on an adapter or not. Wink

That's still a hell of a good guide, it would be a huge task to better it. Especially when the links go on for ever, it's a huge piece of work. And it seems to be active, clicking on the 'New 2014' link brings a lot of stuff up.
I hadn't seen that site before, it's a great find Phil.

I use the site often when researching possible inclusions into my classic camera collection. Only this time I had a good mooch around, I strayed away from my familiar path. I never looked at the 2014 links...
