Anybody can tell me the differences in IQ (sharpness, colors, contrast) between use iso 100, 200 and 400 for general use and street's portraits in daylight with sony nex 5n.

I tried but can't see any. Only with iso 400 better sharpness cos fast shutter used.

Iso 400 degrade image?

The base ISO is that which has no noise-increasing gain applied. Gain = higher ISO. so it's 100 on the NEX.

Check out these tests

I use ISO 400 without thinking much about it. For critical work I try to use ISO 100 but I don't see much if any real life difference.

At iso 800 or 1600, do you note some artifacts?

Note that I shot in raw since I don't like much the high iso jpgs and I prefer to work on raw directly, said that I try to stay at 1600 ISO max, unfortunately the nex5n doesn't allow to set the range of Auto ISO Confused

This is a 1250 ISO http://www.telltale.it/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Asociaci%C3%B3n-Cordobesa-de-Artesanos-ZOCO.jpg
1250 ISO again http://www.telltale.it/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/DSC5291.jpg
2500 ISO shot http://www.telltale.it/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/DSC7147.jpg
3200 ISO http://www.telltale.it/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/DSC5282bn.jpg
12.800 ISO http://www.telltale.it/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/DSC5552.jpg

As a general rule when I work on shots above 1600 I try to denoise a little bit in Lightroom then I manually add some "Film grain" (for example with the VSCO Preset) to compensate the digital noise with a more "natural" grainy noise as you can see in the BN shot of the Mezquita in Cordoba

Thanks Rick1779. But don't have that effort because me. I know that the test should be very interesting, informative and formative.

It' s your time, not mine. Thanks again.

For me it's perfectly safe up to iso 400, very good at 800, more than usable at 1600.
My a55 (and all the dslr's I used, except a K-5) at 800 looks worse than the nex5n at 1600.

all taken with the trioplan 50/2.9, the one I got attached to the nex5n at that moment

All shots are full size RAW converted with Lightroom without any PP

My painlevel was ISO3200 with the 5N in for lowlight, ~ISO 1250 for sports or similar, critical work ISO400.

NEX-5N is about one stop better than NEX-3 and NEX-5

How strong noise looks is always a matter of dynamic range and exposure of your subject. With wrong exposure balance even ISO800 can look very noisy.

With correct technique and under right circumstances even NEX-3 can deliver usable results even at ultra high ISOs like 12800:

(F2.8, 16mm, ISO12800, straight OOC JPEG)

Under good light conditions even 100% crops can look quite nice and detailed, here ISO1000 on NEX-C3 (similar sensor to 5N)

Thank you, ForenSeil.

Your work did think again about mine.
