Three different shots from a recent visit to the castle but which lens is it?
I'm not saying whether it's listed in my signature or not Razz

Don't care - it is excellent.
And if it is MF, then your skills as a photographer are exquisite.
Great work
OH

PS - looks like maybe the 3/200 Komine (but what do I know).................

very nice shots. I always admire your eye hand co-ordination for this MF bird in flight shots.

You should consider to change your nickname to super-sonic scot!

Very Happy

These are always difficult. You are shooting FF which presents a different look from what I'm seeing with my lenses. That said, I don't think S1 2.3/135 and you've already said not 3/200. I see some Helios-44 traits, but don't recognize that dot inside the specular highlight. I will guess Series 1 zoom.

Not that long a focal length IMO ... a classic 135?

I'll put you out of your misery because these things are almost impossible to guess correctly...unless you're called Woodrim! Surprised

This was the first time I'd used my Vivitar Series 1 70-210/3.5 (Kiron) on my Canon 5D Mkll (I probably should have mentioned the 5D2 it the first post) and I was a bit shocked by the results.
I've always liked the lens on the 7D but the full frame doubles it's quality (for me, at least). It will see a lot more use from now on.

Well spotted Mr Woodrim! Very Happy

That's not the obvious choice for shooting birds on the wing, the big heavy old push-pull zoom must be very difficult to keep in the pre focus position. Do you rattle shots off as fast as the camera can manage?
However you do it, your bird shots are always first class. Especially given your liking for big old manual lenses!

It's very rare that I'll attempt to pre-focus, at least not in a normal way. I never know which direction any of the birds will fly so I can't pick a spot and wait for them to come past it.

I'll focus on a distant spot in the garden (where the display is held) and then a near one, then try to commit that range to muscle memory. When the birds start flying I have to trust that memory to help me out.

I don't like to push n pull while focusing so I'll pick a focal length and run with it until I see a change in flight pattern, then adjust as I see fit.

With the 7D I'll burst 3 or 4 shots, the 5D2 is slower so just 2 or 3. If I'm not getting close to a sharp image with that, a longer burst won't help me.

Practice, timing and a truck-load of luck, that's what gets me through the day. 😂
