As far as AI conversion,
I have used John White in the past and have been very satisfied :

Cheryle,
I am not sure if he does 3rd parties, I have only sent Nikkors, but it certainly would be worth the call to find out. He probably decides on a lens by lens basis.

You do not need to do a thing, as your Adaptall[2] mount is actually Ai-S spec. Notice the black coupling ridge and the 'N/AI' (Nikon/AI) on the mount.
As far as your other "non-Ai" lenses are concerned, they will more than likely mount fine without interference, as generally only Nikkors have aperture rings which protrude beyond the mount itself, which interferes with the AI metering and minimum aperture tabs of modern bodies. _________________

Hi Chayelle,
We sometimes abbreviate non-AI on here, but I think the N/AI marking on your lens mount stands for Nikon / AI. I am pretty sure it is AI. Did you try mounting it on your cameras?

with this marking on the lens I thought this lens was also non-ai...

Generally, if a third-party lens is non-Ai, it will say 'N/F' or 'Nikon/F' on the mount, if anything at all. _________________

Usually if the lens/mount has tiny aperture numbers back of the prong, right at the mount end of the lens, it's an Ai... that's so the camera can show you the aperture via a wee window (talking about the old cameras here). I am so impressed with the ability of this little lens. These were all handheld.
There was no PP, straight out of the camera except for heavy cropping to resize.
When I can go out to shoot something I will have confidence in its ability.

Jussi, are these the little aperture #'s you were indicating?

With all of your help I am "starting" to understand. I always read and
try to learn as much as I can before I ask questions, but then I ultimately
need some guidance... A big thanks to everyone. This is a very helpful,
friendly forum!

I am so lost. But, I am more familiar with Nikon (af) gear.
So this MF is a bit easier for me having that base. _________________ Cheryle

You are most welcomed, there are a fair few other sites with good information too. To my mind the MIR site is a bit too "gear-head" though, but it serves its purpose nonetheless. |
