Sounds like lots of fun ... Wink I'd love to hear about your experience with them.

My most recent acquiring was Vivitar 100/2.8 (Sun) which I have not been able yet to test properly. But even the very first samples were very encouraging? as I described in neighboring theme:

Quite possible, however I completely am not certain. Somebody claims that that Vivitar 100/2.8 is "is a Sonnar-type lens consisting of 5 elements in 3 groups":

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4117197

Interesting infromation indeed. I have the Elicar 2.8/100mm which seems to be closely related to the Vivitar if the dpreview linke above is right. Heck, that guy on dpreview even makes an assumption I immediately had when getting the Elicar 2.8/100mm:

Quote:
Whoever made it may be copying Topcor's 100mm f/2.8s or they made that lens, too (*gasp* apologies to Topcor fans for potential blasphemy). Maybe Topcon made all these re-branded ones Razz.

Size and shape of front and back element of the Elicar and the Topcor seem to be identical, and more so all the reflexes on the glass surfaces seem to be identical as well. And they perform pretty similarly as well ... so there's definatly a very close relationship between the two optical constructions.

Thanks for the information on the Elicar, very interesting.

Well.. There is, for example the little gem in my possession - Konica Macro-Hexanon AR 105 mm / F4.

http://buhla.de/Foto/Konica/Objektive/e105_4.html

It is of the Heliar optical formula. I use it with the dedicated native bellows.

Or Minolta AUTO TELE Rokkor-QE 100mm f/3.5

Again, there is Olympus OM 100/2.8

Or it might be Carl Zeiss Makro Planar T* 100mm F/2 ZF

A good representation of lenses and some very nice shots.

I also got a few 100's and it seems I mostly use them up close and at fully opened aperture.

Please excuse the high amount of dogs Smile

Isconar 100mm f4.5
Sharp and lovely rendering but low contrast.

EBC Fujinon 100mm f2.8
A bit less smooth bokeh than Minolta or Nikkor alternatives.

Minolta MD Rokkor 100mm f2.5

Awesome 100mm. Probably my top pick when bubble bokeh is not wanted.

Meyer Optik Görlitz Diaplan 100mm f2.8

My most used 100mm. I love it so much. Even the TTartisan can not replace it due to slightly worse bubbles.
It's sharp and has the best bubbles in town. Probably equal to a Trioplan.

Chinoflex 100mm f2.8
My copy was a bit soft and I didn't really like it.

Thanks Blotafton. The Diaplan is nice indeed 👍, nice images! Any tips on how to adapt this lens?

Thank you, good topic and shots!

I was lucky to get my Diaplan with its projector mount. It can be adapted like this:

What is missing in the picture is another thick extension ring.

Exactly today - having the bubbles in the mind, I had obtained from the local flea-market Meyer Orestor 2.8/100mm for Exacta bayonet (very nice condition - nearly as the new one, with the dedicated case? however too little expensive as for my taste - $100, but well..).

Did some test session, but not very shoving one for the bubbles:

f/2.8

That is a Sonnar, Sonnars aren't known for their soap bubble bokeh.

You were thinking about the Meyer Optik Trioplan probably

No, I remember clearly that the Orestor had been mentioned in connection with the bubbles. I exactly was exploring the Net considering the possibility of obtaining of the above mentioned sample of it.

One only consolation in that case - it really has the ideally round diaphragm.

That's a pretty good lens as well! Since I don't have the corresponding helicoid, I would always need the (large) bellows which - apart from testing - isn't practical for infinity images. It's a pity I have very little time for "fun jobs" right now, but maybe in 2-3 weeks I'll have time to contribute some meaningful images Wink

I agree, it's one of my favorites. It's not a soap bubble lens at all, though.

The old silver and black preset Takumar 105 however does produce some very nice bubbles - not as nice as the famous MOG soap bubbles, but nice.

It is of no way convenient for that purpose, but still is quite usable. And the native Konica bellows are not that bad at all.

Yes sure, especially since the Konica Auto Bellows AR is very well made (but so is the corresponding Canon FD Auto Bellows).
The Minolta bellows from around 1980 is even more sophisticated as it allows for shifting and tilting!

However, compared to a common 4/100mm Macro lens, the combination of Konica AR Auto Bellows plus Konica AR 4/105mm Macro lens is a bit awkward for infinity shots. And a Minolta AF 2.8/100mm Macro (these days available for CHF / EUR 100.--) is even faster ...

Soligor 105mm f2.8 preset.

A small and light lens with better than expected sharpness.

If I remember correctly there is no added vignetting.

Yes, it’s very sharp stopped down. A little soft wide open (talking about the Sun version).

I'm not sure. It looks like Lloydy's lens here:
