My Contax Kit

Here is the Contax Yashica kit I've built up over the last few months. I January I had no C/Y fit lenses having sold my 25/2.8 - 50/1.7 - 85/1.4 set to pay for a NEX-6. Sadly I've not managed to afford to replace the 25 & 85 like for like yet, but I've managed to assemble a new 5 piece kit, for less than the price of those two alone.

Lenses; Zeiss 28/2.8 AEJ, Yash 35/2.8, Zeiss 50/1.4 MMJ, Zeiss 85/2.8 AEJ, Zeiss 135/2.8 MMJ. The 159 & TLA20 I've had for a few years the 135/2.8 was an impulse purchase from Cameraworld at only £100!

Nice!

Is the 159 even smaller than 139Q, looks tiny.

The 159MM is possibly a touch bigger overall, but the little moulded grip on the front makes it handles much better, a really good example of the type. As well as the three program modes the 159MM also adds a top speed of 1/4000 versus 1/1000 and flash sync at 1/250th It's probably my favourite film camera, just shading my T90. Actually IMO if the 159 had a spot meter it would be damn near perfect - the one niggle being the exposure LEDs in the finder can be difficult to see unless you're at just the right angle.

Anyhow, since both 139 &159 are to hand, heres a couple of (crappy iPhone) comparison shots of the 159MM & 85/2.8 Sonnar vs the 139 & 28/2.8 Distagon.

Yes, the 159MM was many years long my top film camera.
Now that I have many Contax lenses, I don´t use the camera any more. Back then I had only the 50/1.7 and I think a 135/2.8. The 85/1.4, 35/1.4 and others came later.
But back then I started with adapting and converting lenses.

An Update… I'd been thinking that the Sony A7 bodies might mean a bit of a run on Zeiss glass so I've been busy since posting that first image a couple of months ago… Twisted Evil As well as adding the 80-200 & 300/4 and upgrading the 85 from and AE Sonnar to and MM Planar I've swapped the 28/2.8 for a newer MM version too.

Looks like I was right too - Ffordes regularly had 3 pages of Contax gear through 2013, now they are down to 2. At least I've only a couple to go now to get my ideal kit - the D18 and maybe mid range VS.
