There's a large number of people using all kinds of homebrew developer recipes, caffenol and it's variants primarily, but using paracetamol has become popular too, I've even seen people using the water left over after boiling potatoes.

Nearly all the results I've seen using these 'alternative' developers have been crap and I think the motivation is to just be wierd and different, rather than obtain worthwhile results in photographic terms.

I honestly think it's a farcical waste of time, film and energy, especially given the very low cost of developers like D76/ID11 and the excellent results obtained with them.

These aren't developers, its all about mistreating the film before exposure or development. But I agree with your sentiments.
