Some very fine close-up shots, Tom! You make clearly seen the advantage that close-up rings give with the old Mir-1.

As for my current state of mind, I really appreciate the lens rendering in BW, postprocessed in NIK.

Alex, your images also show how this lens can shine in B&W.
Some lenses excel in monochrome for some reason.
Nicely done

Could it be something to do with the lack of modern coatings on older lenses. I feel there's a certain quality about some of the lenses that modern lenses sterilise.

That lack of MC coating must be a part of the explanation. I suppose that sligtly lower microcontrast of old lenses is another factor. BW photography gains sometimes pretty much from the loss of details and harsher general contrast. Saying all that I admit that more modern lenses, such as Rollei Planars or some older but well coated Yashinon-DXs are just fine with BW conversion and give very convincing results.

Hello. The MFD of the MIR-1 lens can be reduced by removing one screw that limits the MFD.

Retro photohouse made a video about it (and also how to adjust infinity on the m39 version which has a slightly shorter flange focal distance).

Thank you for the video tutorial. This way it looks an easy fix to try.
