IMHO we are talking about a different subjects here.

In some ways perhaps we are.

I do not dispute your findings at scaled down level. I agree with you there.
I'm at odds with scaling down to some Ultra/Full/Plain HD screen and claiming no one ever uses zoom, so based on that, pictures should be considered identical.
For interactive digital consumption devices instant zoom is very much within "normal viewing circumstances".

The lenses do not even come into this, I never said anything about the lenses.

Coming back to the OP's topic: The sensor size is the least important factor for the final image quality if pictures are taken with good quality lenses at low ISO settings.

Again, we are in full agreement.

Memetph, Aidaho, Tb_a, thank you for the discussion. That sounds higly interesting. Thomas, the comparison of NEX/A7 with Ricoh in favour of the latter is also something I completely ignored. Very curious about it.

That would be great to see some crops which serve also well for pixel peeping. Not in terms of proof, as it is sometimes claimed, but in terms of illustration. I find this comparison between sensors of great use and interest which might be satisfied as for now many of us have two or more cameras.

Alex convinced me to make my examples available for everybody:

Please help yourself. The names of the files are selfexplaining.
BTW, all shot with Rodenstock APO-Rodagon 50mm/F2.8 at F5.6 in RAW at lowest ISO on tripod. No PP like sharpening, just converted in LR6.

Thank you, Thomas! I find your comparison very interesting.

It looks like both Sony render details a bit sharper, while the whole scene more evenly lighted and in some way flatter. The Ricoh's sensor gives to the scene a more natural pop-up.
