I understand. Maybe I'll use some masking tape to put on the glass just in case. The thought of sand paper near optical glass makes me cringe.

Here's another shot:

The brass ring out without removing the glass. You must not remove the glass, so that no dust in the optical group.
Only remove the retaining ring. We must remove some six tenths of a millimeter, a little more on top. The paint again and you're ready to reassemble the ring.
It is easier than it seems.
Good Luck

Alright, I just want to be sure I'm doing this right. I have two of these assemblies so if I mess one up I have a backup Smile

Now based on the image below. I need to remove the inner retaining ring and sand/file it down too right? So maybe best to remove inner retaining ring first and sand say 1mm down from the top, then install retaining ring back and then sand outer housing down to the same height of the newly sanded inner retaining ring?

I'm really think have I have nice lens here on my hands...boy the color and contrast is well balanced...nice tones nothing too harsh. I love this lens now! More samples at f/2:

It happens that 58/1.2 is different. extracts the glasses. Grind only the outer ring.

Ahhh...so you've been referencing the 58/1.2 and it's different. If I only grind the outer ring I will only obtain about .5mm at best. It would be best if I could grind both the outer and inner ring some.

I've got two, so I'll have to experiment and see what happens.

Greath pictures. Were you able to focus at infinity?

Thanks. No infinity focus is still a long ways off...I set the infinity just to where the mirror won't hit and that's about 3 meters Sad I have to grind some of the real element housing first and see what that gives me. I just don't have the heart yet to grind my mirror.

Roy, amazing results! Now I want one for my crop camera! A Canon 30D.

Thanks Kram...my other digital body is a 30D and I'm considering using it there because of the infinity issue on my 5DMK2.

I'm glad I repaired my 30D...I had to replace my shutter Shocked
