I do not have the 1,7. So here are my findings:

About 20 years ago there was much small talk about vintage Minolta MF lenses in the German "minolta-forum.de".
Some members were extremely knowledgeable engineers, and I learned a lot from them.
Others simply were sharing unfounded opinions, declaring them as facts.
Testing several MC-II, MC-X, and MD 1.7/85mm lenses vs several MD 2/85mm lenses I can say that the differences
concerning resolution / contrast are far less pronounced than described by some people back then.
Bokeh is different though:

BTW your portrait above wasn't taken at f2, I'd say ... ? _________________ www.artaphot.ch |

I think there has been a philosophy in lens design at the end of the MD period pursuing higher contrast which had an impact on bokeh (comparison of MD 50 2,0 vs 50 1,7; 85 2,0 vs 85 1,7).
The portrait above should be around f3,5 or f4,0 _________________ Lumens Pixel
