Well..... the pics i took were taken with the MD Rokkor with 55mm filter thread.... i wouldn't call them "mediocre", especially the wide open shots....

Some great results from this lens to revive this thread!

What a coincidence....before seeing this thread, I had Rokkors in mind! Was tinkering with a MD Rokkor-X 50-135mm f/3.5 zoom. Trying to figure out how to correct the zoom creep. Very loose, but the optics are still excellent. Every bit as nice as their primes.

Since trying a MD (II) Rokkor 50 f/1.7 on my Sony, I've happily added more and have been quite pleased with their performance.

A Minolta shooter from another forum claimed the overlooked MD 50 f/2 is crazy sharp and cheap. Sharp and cheap was all that was needed for me to hunt one down! Smile I can't beat the OP's $2.34, but my clean copy was around $10.

I didn't find it to be as sharp as the f/1.7 wide open, but it represented itself well. Great color, flare resistant, decent center sharpness wide open, and very good stopped down. Nil fringing and aberrations.

But I felt the Rokkor 45mm f/2 compares more favorably than stated above. Perhaps it's due to shooting with APS-C. My copy of the 45mm f/2 is a sharp shooter.

Here's a comparison between the two, shot at a distance and f/5.6-8, similar light conditions....

The MD 50 f/2 is a worthwhile f/2 nifty-fifty on its own merits...more so due to being stupidly cheap!

Got this lens for a modest price. Although not as cheap as Walter the in 2010!

Impressed with its 3D capacity, overall sharpness and clarity. A great modern while not "clinically" perfect glass.
