Posted today on a popular auction site is listed a Minolta MC 85/2. Bidding ends in just under a fortnight. The seller kindly informs that although cosmetically in good shape (8.5/10) the front and back lens show signs of fungus and that the aperture is stuck on 1.7. Focusing is however nice and smooth.
Is this something which can be sorted if one is adventurous or best left to the knowledgeable enthusiasts? Starting bid is 700 SEK roughly $85 US.
Worth a bid?

Thanks for any advice.[/b]

I would personally not take the risk. How bad is the fungus? What's left of the coating after removing it? Are you gonna repair the lens yourself? Otherwise extra costs have to be made. Prepare for possible surprises.

I use my Minolta AF 100/2.8 macro sometimes as a portrait lens and it's excellent wide open. You can probably find one for about 100 bucks. You'd only need an additional adapter with aperture control.

Hard to say from text description. Fungus could be ignorable and close to zero damage to coating. On the other hand it could be an ugly sample.

The aperture should be quite easy to fix / clean (have done it myself on a MC-II). Fungus might be a bit more difficult (I don't know how easy the first and the last lens can be taken out; on the MC 1.2/58mm it's a bit a pain). If you want to use the lens (not collect), I wouldn't be too worried about the fungus, even if after the cleaning some minor marks in the coating may remain.

A Minolta MC (!) 2/85mm doesn't extist. I assume it's an MC 1.7/85mm, though.
