But not so great bokeh? I really like this lens, but what do you think about these bokeh circles with green? CA maybe?

The first two wide open, the last one at f/2.8

A tad bit soft wide open?

Do I see a little fringing on the bracelet? Bit purplish maybe?

The bokeh is pretty distracting on the second picture. You just need to avoid backgrounds similar to the 2nd pic. Smile

the bokeh transition on the 3rd pic is nice.

All in all, this lens performs very well, IMHO.

yeah, it's a bit soft wide open, but amazingly sharp stoped down

and yeah, there is a little purple fringing, and the background on the second photo, was on purpose, just to test the bokeh capabilities of the lens... lol Very Happy

I'm curious how you will like it after you use it for awhile.I have a hard time calling this a great lens. Fast yes, but not great.

The 35mm f2.8 is actually equal to or better than the 35 f1.8 from f2.8 and up.
Maybe they are both great lenses. Very Happy I'd like to see a shot at f4 to see how it does. That's getting closer to it's sweet spot.

erm if you are a Minolta fan?...go to a Canon FD forum and they are praising the 35mm f2 and so on.

I like Minolta, and it's the brand of lens I use the most. But I like different brands. A great lens is a great lens no matter the brand.

I've researched alot of Minolta lenses. And this lens never tested that well even when it was new. I'm not saying it's a bad lens, because it's not.
Owners that have both lenses mostly prefer the 35 f2.8.

If you need the extra speed that's fine, but it's just not worth 5 times plus the cost of the 35mm f2.8 lens.

Ivan,
I'm not trying to put down your lens. But I think you would like the 35mm f2.8 better.I tried to find a bokeh example of the 2.8 but haven't found it yet.

The 1.8 is somewhat big and heavy, the 2.8 is a bit sharper too (http://www.rokkorfiles.com/35mm%20Page%202.htm) so under normal conditios you might be better with the 2.8. But under darker conditions the 1.8 is a very nice lens and is good enough for other work IMHO. But I have to confess, I have both and use them in the circumstances they fit the best.

Nice you mentioned the 35 2.8 version because I'm trying to buy one, but I haven't found one in a reasonable price yet...

Interesting that I have a Minolta 35 f/2 in AF (for my A700) and I think this lens is simply fantastic, I know it's a MF forum, but check out this sample (wide open)

And the bokeh is better too...

In the US a good price on the 35mm f2.8 is $25-$45.
I agree with you the 35mm f2 AF is a great lens. I wouldn't mind having
one myself. Smile

And great sample!
