It's listed there are 3 versions.
MC1
MC2
Rokkor X

This thread is about the last version which
has the rubber grip.
The Rokkor X was only for the North American
Market.
Rest of the world
Minolta MC W Rokkor SI.

My Rokkor X Version
171XXXX. 347.5 grams

European Version
157XXXX. 345 grams

Why the discrepancy in weight?

It is 2.5 gram, 9% of an ounce, this is not a journey to Mars.
There could be as much batch variations in US Rokkors
.

Yes, it could also be a change in materials, a running design change, or change in optics.
I was curious if any one had heard of any design changes, or optic changes on the North American model.

To my knowledge the optics are unchanged other than coatings.

Manufacturing tolerances? Minor mechanical design changes?

I'll check the dozen or so MD 35-70 lenses i have at home for deviations from the nominal weight. Of course they were produced considerably later than the MC 2.5/28, and one would expect tighter tolerances.

Many Minolta lenses contain production variations based on serial number, not necessarily by location. The serial numbers are quite different. Generally, some mechanical pieces are simplified or the material or alloy changes slightly on some parts. You'd have to strip both down and inspect/weigh every part to know.
