I have been in discussions with Alex(hk300) about the components of this tripod and how it compares to my Manfrotto 725B DIGI. I have just received a 055XBPR0 legset with a 488RC2 head, but have found that I'd like to be able to carry such a lightweight tripod as the 725B when I go crawling through abandoned places. It lacks only a suitable head, for carrying a weight load of older lenses.

I have finally removed the head from the 725B, and it will probably not support mounting of the ballhead Alex is offering, but I have several pics of the components to share with Alex before a determination is made. Precise measurements and other factors will have to be considered.

If this experiment turns out well, I may have a 725B legset with a 486RC2 ballhead attached, for far less than US $200. While I can not comment on the legset being offered by Alex, I hope to mount the ballhead he is offering to my 725B, to increase the weight load of my tripod head's capacity.

Please be patient with us as we confer on the details. We live on different continents, so immediate communication has been sketchy, but cooperation has so far been outstanding.

Pictures and details will follow, as this experiment progresses.
Model numbers included above are for preliminary reference only.

For a very nice ball head check out the Cullmann offerings from Adorama. I think they are the best bargain going.

Just picked up my MFL 3010 tripod from the post office this morning. I was late for work so I didn't have much time to play with it but it seemed solid and sturdy enough for me.

Quite similar even if not completely identical for what I see.

Anyway I already used it both in studio and outdoor situations and it behaves perfectly, at a fraction of price my old Manfrotto light tripod and a LOT more stable and precise.

I second that! +1! I never had a profesional tripod but with Alex tripod I find that it's very stable and sturdy.

Alessandro, thanks both for reporting on the tripod in isolation and also in comparison to the model it 'emulates'. Very helpful.

Hey guys, How can I order this tripod?

PostPosted: Thu Apr 02, 2009 10:26 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Either from me via Ebay if you not trust in stranger (look my signature there is my Ebay shop link ) or directly from our member Alex (hk300).
Ebay price is a bit higher than direct order from Alex. If you not see any in Ebay shop let me know and I will re-list it.

I was looking at the 190XPROB and the 486RC which costs 380usd here then remembered Alex's tripod. I know that his triod hasn't a flexible center column but how close to the ground it can be mounted?
* he is not online in msn so asked here for a quick answer Smile

Tripod is an important item as I have just bought Cokin P ND and ND Grad filters but spending 380USD for a tripod sounds too much for me as I'm new to landscape photography (I'm reading much though).

Is this no center column mode?
