Sony has updated this camera APP which allows to manually do correction values for lens peripheral shading, chromatic aberration and distortion.
Please check the feature and spefic here :
https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/portal/usbdetail.php?eid=IS9104-NPIA09014_00-000008

The LENS PROFILES with focal length and max. aperture plus the corrections ARE USER editable, however no lens profile were recorded in Exif..

According with the A7II announcement IT MAY NOW be recorded in exif:
Quote:

The α7 II is equipped with Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity for mobile linking and supports Sony's PlayMemories Camera Apps which allow features to be expanded. An updated Lens Compensation app enables lens information to be stored in Exif data and supports compensation of recorded video, and import/export of lens compensation values. users can manually set correction values for lens peripheral shading, chromatic aberration, and distortion.

Anyone with this app can confirm if updated version record Exif lens profile?

My fingers crossed to be TRUE! Very Happy

This can be done with manual focus lenses also?

I just updated and lens info isn't showing up in EXIF data in Lightroom.

A couple of other things I noticed when using the app:

When using the app I can no longer set the LCD display to show only camera settings (Quick Navi).
Magnification button behaviour is changed so that the first press displays a box in the viewfinder and second press magnifies.

Thank you for the input.

So it seams not the good news I was waiting for Confused Evil or Very Mad
-What camera did you have the app installed?
- Also you say NO "Lens Name" profile in Exif, but how about "Focal length" and "Maximum aperture" at Exif metadata??

I'm using an NEX-6.

I said no "lens info" - meaning no focal length, max. aperture, or name.
ACDSEE isn't showing me any lens metadata either.

For the diferent kinds of cameras with legacy lens that I use my prefered soft (lightroom plugin) is Lenstagger

http://www.essl.de/wp/software/lenstagger-lightroom-plugin/

It's free, and get the job done...

I like it very much....

I can have on the exif file / part the name of the lens, and a lot more information....

It's not sofisticated, but, as I said I like it....

Regards to all

Jnarciso

@Pancolart
Yes! All Lenses! Smile

@Nordentro
A good idea, I would contribute on lens profiles although my primary goal would just TAG lens Exif when shooting and still not available!

Thanks again Lenny.
I did understand at first but my "lesser hopes" that can have some good news force me to re-ask!! Laughing
I do also have a nex-6 but have it borrowed so I did not have the chance to confirm if update writes Exif data..

Very Happy Right. With large amount of Raw files that task is even more difficult.

Usually I do carry 4-7 MF lenses and often swap lenses when shooting.
As end result, I may have 100-200 shots and swapped those lenses for about 10 times!! Embarassed
When I really want keep track which LENS were used, at the start of lens swap I do take a photo of next lens to be used, and then organize by folders the photos and may tag exif as well...

Anyway what I really expect is a way that I can tag the lens and maybe the aperture when shooting and not after.
It must be a simple task for Sony app developers but not implemented (yet).
That would be very nice for us MFlenses users.

To solve trouble of tagging: carry one lens and use one aperture only. Wink

Nice suggestion! Laughing

even better would be to BUY n Digital cameras for n Manual Lenses, so by the camera you know the lens were used! Cool

Splendid idea, that really would enhance A7 + MF Lens experience.

"Anyway what I really expect is a way that I can tag the lens and maybe the aperture when shooting and not after. "

This is what I was looking for when I originally downloaded the app.

The whole way of implementing it in an "app" is silly as well. Even if the app does record EXIF data, you need to be in running the app for it to record the data, which inexplicably alters a bunch of other camera functions.
And since they're selling it as an add-on to suckers like me, I don't suppose they'll be adding it to the menus on new cameras any time soon.
Bah.

Sony made a minor update (v2.10) on 4th December.

Now they refer regarding written EXIF data:

Quote:
The following lens information can be written to Exif data*1 even from lenses that do not ordinarily allow it*2
・Lens model: LensModel
・Focal length: FocalLength, FocalLengthIn35mmFilm
・F-number: FNumber
*1 Excludes some camera models. See specifications for details.
*2 See General Notes in specifications for your lenses.

, and that will be ONLY applied to A7II and future models!
Thank you Sony!! Twisted Evil

Yes, it writes data to Exif! Name of lens and focal length, but not f/ number Sad
Or wait, yes f/ number as well, nice...

I tested the App with Voigtlander Ultra heliar 12mm (RAW)

that's a cunning plan will make testing lenses a lot faster...i have 4 or 5 70mm ish to 200mm ish to test......i seem to buy them faster than i can try them
