ME Super under-exposing

A nice minty P30T arrived in the mail today so I put a film through it. Works superbly well Very Happy

However, the negs scanned SO much easier than the identical film through the ME Super, I looked back through the archives. The ME Super is definitely under-exposing by about one f-stop compared to the P30T. I hadn't noticed, but if I compare a neg from last week with a neg from a year ago, they are definitely thinner by a noticeable margin.

Is this a known phenomenon, and is it an easy 'repair'? Anybody?

Many thanks,
Graham

ME Super under or P30T over?

Hi Graham, it's a known phenomenon I'm afraid. My old ME Super sadly sits on the top shelf for the same reason, despite a professional CLA. I'm not clear why it happens, the meter readings seem to compare with other cameras and the shutter speeds were tested OK. I suspect it's an electronic fault, probably on the exp compensation dial.

If you still want to use the camera you could set the comp dial on +1 or reduce the ASA setting by a stop, or if you want to try repairing it here's the dismantling instructions:

Strange coincidence - I bought a P30n last year too! Smile

Interesting. I have two ME Supers. One underexposes, sometimes. I discovered that the ISO selection thingy is very sensitive, and has to be just right to get the right meter reading. I guess this is not exactly the same problem.

The other ME Super is fine. What a camera!

Thanks for the info. I guess it's time for the ME Super to retire then Sad

Oh well, it came as a freebie with some lenses, so I guess I can't complain. Shame though, I adore using it, it just 'feels' right. I'll give it to Harrow Technical for spares next time I send a lens for repair Very Happy
