so you all know by now ive been trading/selling my big slr gear for smaller, mostly rf style gear. ive recently acquired a leica summicron-c 40/2.0 and elmar-c 90/4.0 to go with a being repaired leica cl. i have to say, while ive really only taken test shots, and not that many, ive been blown away by the quality of the images i'm getting from these two. the color, 3d quality, sharpness, i'm almost speechless. and they are TINY TINY TINY. the 40 is the size of a thimble! even though i only have a small sample, i feel i can say these are two of the best lenses ive ever used. i think the 40 is noticeably better than the comparable zeiss planar T 50/1.4 and the 90 is at least the equal of my favorite zeiss planar T 80/1.4, though obviously much slower.

anyway, i dont know if the quality will come through here, but i just had to post a couple taken with my ep2. again, these are test shots, theyre not being submitted to magazines, just some quick snaps. first three are the summicron, last two are the elmar:

First off, cute dog! He/she's one handsome bugger Cool

I'm afraid you may have to sell those lenses, there's plainly something very wrong. I can count every hair on the lady's head, and on the dog too Shocked That sort of thing just won't do at all Confused

I am not in the least surprised. Those lenses are superb, partly because they are Leica, partly because they are of moderate aperture, and partly because they are RF lenses.

They all look wonderfully sharp, and part of that has to be the photographer too Wink

Those CL lenses are legendary and not without a reason.
I would love to try that 40 on my NEX.

The system did not sell all that well, but the optics were superb. Leica thought (rightly, perhaps) that they were losing sales of the M-5 to the CL. I loved the M5 and though they should have kept it.

You know, there are a few lenses that have stunned me lately on the NEX and they all come from different makers.

Meyer Primagon 4.5/35, Carl Zeiss Jena Cardinar 4/100, Konica Hexanon 4/21, Topcon 1.8/58, Topcon 5.6/200, Canon FL 2.5/35, all are really top optics and all were cheap, between 25 and 45ukp.

I don't think so - the CL even survived the M4 and M5 by a year. These were the days when all makers reduced their line-up to either SLR or point-and-shoot, and Leitz was no difference.

Appealing Summicron samples. Last two a bit two noisy (and shaky) to say more - i guess too dark for F4.0.

thanks everyone. to me, given the relatively reasonable prices of these lenses, if anyone has an opportunity to pick one up, do not hesitate, you will not be disappointed!

pancolar, they are not noisy at all on my screen at high resolution. i feared they would not translate here as the amazing images i'm seeing at native resolutiion on my screen. unfortunate, but take my word for it, the sharpness and clarity are outstanding.
