Just when I thought I had heard of them all... Has anyone experienced this odd duck? I'm not interested in it other than a curiosity. I don't understand why a police camera wouldn't want a faster lens.

Picture is inserted by Attila to make this thread useful , even if lens not available anymore on Ebay.

No experience here, did find some info but not much, you probably found as much:
http://www.novacon.com.br/odditycameras/selena.htm
http://www.ussrphoto.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=971
It is noted as being for fast moving subjects (traffic camera basically), which seems somewhat odd indeed with that apperture, or that of the jupiter 38 which is a 75mm f/4?
To me it seems more like they needed large DOF since all policemen were drunk and could not shoot a camera properly Rolling Eyes just put in some fast film and click away, who needs to focus anyway Laughing

I've always been interested in the 4/75mm. I've read it has a serious issue with normal M42 cameras though. It will jam the auto-actuator. They come up from time to time on ebay.

The quality may be interesting since they were designed not for photography as an art but rather purely as a documentation format. I wonder if that made any difference?

I would expect results like an enlarger/reproduction lens, especially considering the aperture size. Which could mean anything basically Smile since some seem to be good and some less. Some of the things i found indicate that it is meant for certain distances (see links in previous post) so it may be an optimized design for those distances?

I suspect it is better left for the purposes for which it was designed.

Laughing
For that money you could buy a lot of other jupiter like 37a, 11 and 9, or other russian lenses which will give you a lot more fun indeed Wink

Hmm... I would like to understand rules of this forum. About a week ago I have put in a forum a post about very rare Helios 44M-4 lens being sold on ebay. The post was immediately deleted. Some hours ago someone has put in a forum a post about Olympus 135mm lens being sold on ebay for a reasonable price. The post was immediately deleted. This woodrim's post about rare police camera lens being sold on ebay still alive.

So can someone explain me the rules so my post won't be deleted?

I don't know why your post was deleted , usually I move Ebay hints to MFClub as hints to buy . MFClub not visited by search engines due it is a restricted area, This kind of Ebay links will be use less soon when it is removed from Ebay. One reason why I move them to there, second reason rare lenses like what did your post, I won't share with every one, I would like to yield those member (above 100 posts) who are active on this forum. My guess is your post is not deleted just moved to MFLClub, mods here rare delete posts.

Yes it is there. Good to know about that topic. But it would be nice to get a notification when someone move/delete your post.

Lot easier just move than inform each member at each case. Sorry about inconvience

If you click on the link "View your posts" above the forum topics on the main index page, you will see your post and you can click to go to it, wherever it's been moved to.

I know Smile but the problem is that I mostly browse this site from the work and I cannot login from there because this sites verifies a browsing session ID and it always changes at my work.

It is not related to security, I guess this is just a policy/behavior of the proxy server.
