Hello,

I am looking for an M39 Jupiter 3 f1.5 50mm lens to go on my Fed 5B and Fed 3.

Preferably, I look for an excellent condition, but I will consider a 'value' priced user.

Please reply through email here, thank you

Greg I just got one back from Brian Sweeney.
He shimmed the lens to correct focus shift.
Optimal focus is set for close range and wide open.
If you are interested send me a message.
The look is so similar to my Zeiss sonnar But with less sharpness and contrast. I'm going to let the lens go.
I have to admit. I'm not a big fan of the Russian lenses in use. This is my last try. I'm giving up now.

Are you willing to set a price including S&H through Paypal for my consideration?

You say it was shimmed? Am I to understand it is meant to be used on an SLR rather than a rangefinder so infinity is not possible? I am not that well informed on this lens and assumed it was for rangefinder. If it is for SLR I am not interested in obtaining the lens.

Greg

It's for RF Greg.
I suggest a google search about j3 focus shift and errors.
These little gems come with many quirks.
Nearly all need adjusting in order to focus correctly.

OK, how much?

Good J-3's tend to be for rangefinders these days - the pre seventies for-SLR production was small and has all but vanished by now, and late ones tend to be of horrible quality.

J-3's usually need re-shimming to focus accurately on a Leica - at f/1.5 their focus precision requirements exceeded the rather big register tolerances of FEDs and Zorkis (where entire camera generations were off by half a millimetre), so that those sold with a camera were originally shimmed to match the body (or body generation) they were bundled with rather than to Leica mount standard.

I've never heard of a J-3 SLR production. Any references you can point to?
