I cannot view the files but comparing the J-21 to the Canon is not a fair match.

sorry !
you must rename the files to .cr2.... you must delete the .tiff extension.

metallaro, please can you convert your pics to jpg max 1024 px wide and repost them. There are many members who can't open CR2 files and some on slow connections who can't download 12MB files!!! Thanks very much

Do you not think the zoom has more resolution throughout though?

canon L lenses are often a tough competitor to old mf lenses

Looking at the samples I strongly disagree.

The canon is much sharper, more saturation and without CA. Unless these are qualities you'd rather avoid I don't see how the J21 gives better results.

I like Russian lenses, so I'm not out to put them down. As I said, it's not a fair fight when you consider the price difference.

but there is nothing in focus in the shot taken @4 with jupiter-21m....
mine @4 are these:

and for me are good !

If nothing is in focus then either the shutter speed is too low or the lens is soft wide open. One problem I've found is that my adapters allow the lens to focus past infinity. If you have this problem too and you have set your lens then this may be the reason that nothing is in focus.

If you prefer the J21 then that's what counts for you.

today a woman that she works in a photographic lab saw these pictures:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33530174@N05/4991229370/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33530174@N05/4991224418/

and this is what she thinks

the two lenses are very close ... but the jupiter-21m has more contrast

but again ... I am not the person that have made this test so probably there is a little of wrong focus in the shot taken with jupiter-21m at @4.
but I use in general the j21 at @11 @8...because I want DOF

looks like the old lenses at least matches the canon L at F8
F4 is different story
is this the IS version of the canon?

canon 70-200 4L @8

for me the jupiter-21m is better...more saturation..more contrast (the small house on the left)

i think that the canon is not IS version

Wow, zombie thread. I can't even remember this one.

I'. please you like the J21. I now have one and also the Canon 70-200 F4 L. I have used both at a portrait shoot for a comparison and the Canon is a bit better in all terms, but the Jupiter is a very good lens.

Canon obviously has more resolution and handles CA far better than the Jupiter but vignetting @ f/4 is plain awful.
