I'm sure you would have already looked into it, but how about buying a case for the nex? It would make it a bit bigger for your hands. Nex 7 is also a good choice.

Btw, knowing that you're a "T" fan, maybe you'll also like this. http://asia.cnet.com/sony-to-unveil-large-sensor-compact-62216141.htm

Some more interesting options, particularly that large sensor Sony Smile Although, from what I've seen of the Nikon 1 series, the sensor will still be too small for my tastes Laughing

So where am I at? I've moved away from wanting a small camera which will do everything that my big camera (5D) already does...Tony, thanks for your help with that Smile What I want now is something small for street shooting. I'm not convinced I want a point a shoot at arms length camera, but I'm not into EVFs. The Nex is giving me eyestrain and headaches when using it, so an EVF is out. I also find the buttons on the Nex-5n are placed badly for me. A Nex-7 would be better, but it's expensive and has an EVF again. Plus there are no reasonably priced AF lenses for it in the 24mm range.

This leaves me with an X100, X-Pro 1, Leica M8 or Leica M9 Laughing I can only afford the X100 and I'm not impressed by the sticky aperture blade problems which seem to plague them.

But...I have found another option, which isn't perfect but seems to be a firm favourite of many street shooters. I'm now considering a Panasonic GF-1 with 20/1.7 and an optical viewfinder for framing. Obviously this is a dangerous way to shoot, but could be fun nonetheless! I'd only shoot for black and white so I guess the high ISO shouldn't be too much of a problem. Have I gone mad?

yes Shocked

you give up low light, give up IS, give up depth of files. new X100s dont have aperture problem, though mine, bought last november did. fuji fixed it no prblem, i had it back in a week.

Tony, I am very strange Laughing

I have read lots of people are still getting x100s and having to send them back straight away with sticky blades Sad One individual has sent his back four times now which is truly astonishing, so I can't believe Fuji has nailed it yet I'm afraid Shocked

I'm sure I'll end up with one eventually, but I'm going to wait for a while to see if things settle down first.

if true, thats absurd and inexcusable on fuji.

Well, the attraction must be strong because I did it Laughing

I've bought one of these:

And an old viewfinder to go with it as well Smile I'm well aware that the quality won't be up to the Nex-5n or the X100, but when paired with the 20/1.7 this camera appears to do a great job on the street.

Thanks everyone for your help, I'll be back in a month or so once I decide that I want to change it again Wink

Nice choice. Very Happy I wouldn't mind having one myself as a street cam. It's designed like a camera should be. Well layed out easy to use controls. Smile
I'm not trying to tempt you, but you do realize you can still get new Panny 14 2.5 lenses on the 'Bay for USD $161.

Haha, this will be a one lens and one purpose camera for me...like a point and shoot Very Happy The 14/2.5 IS good value though!

Congrats on the new mFT setup Graham.

The 20mm is well known good lens - a little bit slower and noisier but good.
And now before you know it you will want to have a Pen Very Happy

Ebay Smile It came with a wide and tele auxiliary lens set. The wide frameline is perfect for the 20mm (40mm equivalent) lens.

I think the NEX size is a big issue, at least for me and it seems you too. I have pretty much solved my problem and will now go post the result. LOOK for post "Getting a handle on the NEX".
