When I saw it, there was less than an hour to go in the auction, so, I had no opportunity to do much research on it. I got a Tokina 35-105mm f/3.5-4.3 for $24 including shipping. I have not found much on this lens on the net & am wondering if the folk here have any experience with it.

If it's the same configuration as my 35-105 Vivitar TX, I consider it a darned respectable lens.

My experience with these older Tokina RMC lenses is that they are good, solid performers. I think you'll enjoy it. Certainly can't complain about the price.

I had a 24mm prime RMC Tokina and it was awful. I thought these were budget series lenses?

Maybe their quality control wasn't as consistent? Maybe your 24mm had been dropped? I have a Vivitar 17mm f/3.5, made by Tokina, same as the Tokina RMC 17mm f/3.5. Not a budget lens. Mine is sharp with great color and contrast. I've also had compact RMC zooms that rendered surprisingly good photos.

Not sure how many lines Tokina had, but the AT-X series was supposed to be the top of the line, I believe (and the one used by Vivitar for Series 1 relabeling in some cases). Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe sombody else will chime in here, but I believe the AT-X series came relatively late in Tokina's manual-focus history -- like from the mid-80s forward. Whereas the RMC series were earlier.

Here are some links I found regarding the topic of RMC Tokina lenses that are germane to this discussion, I believe:

And finally a nice blog entry on the subject by one of our own members:

Thanks guys for the replies. I see mixed opinions so I will have to try it out against some of my other lenses when I get it. Should be interesting.

Yes. Looking forward for results.
I have a Tokina AT-X 2.8/35-70.
