Well, I sell lenses I use the least. I also sell lenses that aren't "unique" or have a "character" compared to what modern AF glass can offer. I also found it beneficiary to sell a few cheaper lenses in order to buy a single great one. This way you decrease the quantity of your collection while dramatically increasing the qiality.
For example, I sold my CZ Sonnar 100/3.5 (results are too close to Sonnar 85/2.8, too slow aperture, difficult to focus), but kept the similarly specced Yashica ML 100/3.5 Macro (unique optical construction, very different rendering, especially among macro lenses).
Sold Tamron 500/8 Reflex, RMC Tokina 500/8 Reflex, but kept Yashica ML 500/8 (too sharp) and Olympus Zuiko 500/8 (too small and sharp).
Selling a perfect shapr SMC Takumar 50/1.4 (current market prices too high and too tempting) but bought MC Helios-44K-4 (unique rendering, KMZ-made sharp MC lens with native K mount).
Sold Pentacon MC 200/4 (rarely using 200mm f/l, no unique IQ compared to my other 200mm lenses) but kept Olympus Zuiko 200/4, Nikkor 200/4 for the sake of it.
Sold Yashica ML 135/2.8 (too weird; one of the worse 135mm lenses I had) but keeping Prinz Galaxy 135/3.5 (it's so badly corrected that it becomes picturesque).
Sold Nikkor 20/3.5 (soft corners) but kept Arsat-H 20/2.8 (even worse than the Nikkor, but hey - it's one of the few lenses that are Made in Ukraine!)
Sold CZ 50/1.7 (no fault with it - just nothing special compared to the 50/1.4 version that I kept) to help fund the purchase of FA Pentax 43/1.9 Limited (which instantly became one of my favorite lenses).
And yet I feel I still have too many lenses. _________________ List of lenses |
