Tempted to try this one to possibly replace my kit 24-85 VR, but net lacks any real expert insight and the average prices aren't exactly buy and try it just like that... unless a "broken" one I'm eyeing on ebay while asking seller how a simple lens like that, that looks to be in perfect shape can be broken.

I have AF version and it is a good lens. Perhaps a little too big. Fits fine with dslr

A contender for real pro-grade or price does reflect its overall limits?

I use it with D800 for group shots, 20+ persons, mostly f5.6-8 with several flash, low iso (200-800), so I guess it is good enough for you too. You may need micro adjustment for AF before using it. The D800 has memory for the lens.

I got the lens from a friend and did not look up for the price. It fits my need and have not been looking for another nikon in this range. I have not use it for architecture, only group shots.

May drop ~75 on ebay to try one out. I have this weird desire to try a Tokina, of any kind. Originally was going to do that w/ the Macro 90 or 100, but found a better deal w/ Tamron E72. Sigma I own the Super-Wide II, but no Tokinas of any kind. And fact that its made for 77 filters is a huge plus for me.

And I'm on D600, so should be able to tweak as necessary.
