I was sort of inspired by a guy Michel Campeau. http://www.moisdelaphoto.com/campeau.html

I was trying to get monochrome, get grain and a vintage feel, while fooling around with a single low light...

I've cut them done from 45.... can't go any further... i don't know how they do it...
I know if i take a step back and come back to them later it'll get easier...
I just wanted to do an exercise : have an idea, set up, shoot and choose.... done...

Now, some of you are pros and others are very good shooters...

Choose one.... or two...
voice your critics, tips or anything else you have to say, i'd like to hear it

All shots from a RE, Auto-Topcor 2,8/35, heavily stoped down, high ISO, no PP,
straight Jpegs from my 6Mp Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D...

Thanks

I would choose number 5, probably the lightest of all the pictures. With the style I think you're aiming for, in a 'product shot' such as these, some edge definition is important. It's OK for some of the black of the camera to be indistiguishable from the black of the background, but not all of it. We need to be able to define the outline.
It's a style I like and one that I have tried. There's some examples of my attempts in my ipernity album 'Cameras & Lenses'.

Some of mine were taken using black velvet as the background, but the velvet was actually very shiny and it didn't quite have the effect I wanted, which is the same effect I think you're after. Whether mine work or not I'm not sure. Wink

Thanks Lloydy, your comments are very much appreciated.

I was aiming for something like your Rolleiflex SL-35.
I thought that with less light i would get a little less "product shot"... a little more "artistic"

But, insisting on working with only one light source, i would always loose the outline...
or else the middle of the camera would get to much light... i like less light....

My only problem with the black velvet is dust and other particules, they'll sometimes shine under the light...

The Zorki-4K i liked... if it filled the frame i would of loved it !
you can't fake it, the camera itself has "vintage" all over it ..... looks like it weighs 8 pounds !
Same for the KodakVest Pocket B, the black one...a bit bigger in the frame would of been it !

Next time i'll use another light and aim it towards the back of the camera....
Or one on each sides..

I guess your right... a bit more edge definition and i would of been happy with #5...

Thanks for time
