Hello All! First time poster but long time viewer. I have come across an Auto Exaktar 35/2.8 with an unidentifiable mount.

Here are some images to help identify it Smile

Any help is well appreciated!
Cheers,
TheRedBook

One of the moderators will be around in a bit to give you picture posting rights.
In the meantime,
"Exaktar" lenses came in several period from different makers and for several mounts and purposes.
1. Earlier ones were German lenses mainly from Zeiss that were rebranded for various reasons.
These were in the old Exakta mount. Easy to ID.
2. There were a very few 1960s German lenses with this brand made for the Exakta Real, West German attempt to revive the old Ihagee firm in the West. The mount is a unique bayonet. That may be yours because its not one of the well known mounts.
3. More common were early 1970s Japanese made lenses in the Exakta Real mount made for the Cosina sourced Exakta Twin TL. The West German firm gave up making their cameras in Germany and went all Japanese.
4. Some of the same Japanese lenses were made in M42 when the company abandoned the unique mount.
5. Then there were several third party makers that made lenses sold under this brand when all that was left was the brand, licensed to a couple of importers. These would be M42 and PK mounts.

I have already looked over that website and this one: http://www.kehblog.com/2011/12/lens-mount-guide-part-1.html
The closest is indeed the Exakta mount but there are two pins that are apparent on the version I have. One of the pins I can unscrew and the other looks like the same one used on M42 mounts. So that is where my dilemma comes from. Hopefully, the images show up now that the moderator came around (Thank you!).

@Luis - Thank you for your response! I see you on here quite frequently and I appreciate your wisdom. I have a Canon 60D so I am trying to convert this lens to an EF mount, it doesnt seem that a generic Exakta to EF adaptor would work, but than again I haven't tried it yet as I didn't want to wait for one to be shipped and find out it wouldn't work. I have access to a dremel and other tools if there is a way I can simply modify the mount itself and convert to a similar adapter.

Cheers,
TheRedBook

For a place that deals in camera gear they sure take terrible pictures of those mounts. I can't see the details of the bayonet lugs in many of them.

Exakta Real - i.e., "Western" Exakta.
I have a 55/1.4 like this.

Mod may not be easy in this case. The easy cases are where you can basically remove the old mount plate and simply replace it with a flanged M42 adapter (or whatever) for your camera. A bit of drilling and dremel work and you can use the same screws. OK, I leave out the complications of shimming for spacing, getting the mechanism to behave, etc., but you get the picture.

It looks like this mount is integral with the rear barrel and isnt just a plate. It seems you can unscrew that easily enough, but I dont know where you will be after that.

There is a collectors market for these, not huge, but I have seen clean Exakta Twin TL's going for quite high prices.
I suggest you sell this, noting its in Exakta Twin TL mount.
The lens itself looks like it may have come from Sun or Sankyo; nothing special other than he weird mount. You should be able to get something as good and more adaptable for very little.
