Phew! I've only got two ( would have had four if some rat seller hadn't kept my money and not sent the goods, but I might not have bought the two I have if he'd sent them, and I'm quite happy with them).

As a film user, find it amusing the fuss about the helios 44s (and I do have an excellent 44m).....I just pay a few ££s more and use better 50mm lenses from Canon, Konica, Minolta and Olympus or a better looking m42 50mm meyer oriston.

Burn the heretic! Smile
But seriously, it's the bang for the buck, a couple of years ago anyway and even now. In M42 they provide a perfect no-risk way for many to sample MF without laying out much cash and then they can see for themselves. Luckily the H44 is so good, it leaves a good impression of Russian glass with most people - even if some of it isn't fantastic, most of it is worthwhile getting. Prices of the H44 have risen a bit, but with millions still out there I don't see them getting rare any time soon.

Ah! Rumsfeld quote summed it all up then for newbies:-

........there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know.

When looking around, after reading cheering messages about this lens I stumbled on http://link.marktplaats.nl/299699888 .
Looks rather rugged, heavy used. According to the seller the lens is good, but when I look at the first picture the glass itself looks strangely positioned (not straight when you look at the white circle). Unfortunately seller lives over 200km away, but I could also give it a shot and let it send over to me (shipping cost is cheaper than the gas Wink ). But can anyone confirm that it doesn't look how it should? Would otherwise be a nice lens to add to my collection (well, I need something more as I'm pretty sure ( Wink ) it won't fit on my Nikon without an adapter, think it will be M42, but that was something the seller couldn't tell, so I have to explain a bit to her, guess it's from an inheritence or so).

Had a look at my Helios 44M. You do see something like that when seen at an angle. My copy came in mint condition very cheap and with an excellent additional lens! cheers

Hello:

I show them a taken photo this month during the shooting of a series of TV in my village. Two men are principal actors of this program of TV.

The photo has been taken by me M 42, Helios 44-4 to f: 2 and my camera is a Pentax K 200 D.

Bests Regards: David.

Personally, it's not about other lenses being 'better'. It's the character displayed by the Helios that's the attraction. I have a boatload of 5Xmm lenses - all of which cost more than even my most expensive Helios - but none of them provide results as surprisingly pleasant (or pleasantly surprising) as the little Russians Wink

There's truth in that ... the Helios has something special, also on a digital cam.

(Canon DPP / Standard picture style / custom WB / sharpness +2)
