VGR, (could we have a real first name, like Vladimir--if you're wanted
by Interpol, OK),

Another beautiful shot (of another beautiful subject!)

Thanks for sharing. Cool

VGR, congrats for such nice lens and pictures!.
The composition and lighting is excellent, and the perfect focus on the girl's eyes makes the portraits look superb!. I love the sharpness of the hair and the natural expression of pic#1. Just a matter of taste, I would myself prefer not to cut the hair at the top/right side (#1 and #2).
Good work!.
Jes.

is black version noticeably higher in contrast compared to white version?

what are the things where white version is better than the black and vice versa?

I have had both lens they have NO optical difference. I kept silver version. You can get for half price than black version, CZJ Pancolar 80 f1.8 has significantly better contrast.

another stupid question: are they radioactive? (someone mentioned yellowing)

my wife "made" me put my Super Takumar 50/1.4 in isolation when I bragged about having radioactive source in the house, if these babies are dangerous, I'll just have to live with it, I'm that crazy about owning one.

I did not see any yellowing lens from version 1, I am not sure about version 2, might be I saw with yellow lens.

The radioactivity of different lenses is an unclear subject.
Not only some Russian lenses are radioactive, some Japanese lenses are as well and even some Leicas. Most of them, however, are emitting rather low doses and are said to be not really dangerous, at least not more than sitting in a garden would be.
Others have been found as really "hot". It depends on which substance (e.g. Thorium which is said to be pretty strong) was used in the glass. See: http://www.hps.org/publicinformation/ate/q1356.html

I have not heard that the Helios-40 might be radioactive, in contrast to the Jupiter-11 BTW, of which I have recently read that it might be radioactive.
Shocked (I didn't know that when I bought one.)
