As it turns out you need a 28, I add my +1 on all the recommendations already!

Re. budget lenses with more plastic - I'm thinking maybe Oly was a bit constrained given their mount design, where lens release and aperture lever are both on the mount itself. That probably stopped the extensive use of plastics in the lenses... and they did go into the 'bridge' camera market with their built in zoom cameras, their era of wandering in the wilderness...

Actually a lot of (at least the later versions of) the 50mm 1.8 feature plastic focus and aperture rings, so I don't think their mount design stopped them on that.

In fact my version of the Zuiko 135mm 2.8 features a plastic part inside the mount, which is actually it weak point (I think I either have the latest or the MC version). It seems to be a common problem with some of the 135mm 2.8 lenses that the plastic pins with which the spring for the locking mechanism is melted on the plastic plate inside the mount break off, setting the spring free and making the locking mechanism unusable. (so top tip: check that before buying a 135mm 2.8 Wink ).

I have a Bauer made Vivitar 28 2.8 in OM mount that's all plastic except for the ring with the mount and levers, so I don't think it was really a constraint. Aperture clicks aren't nearly as solid as on the Olympus 28 3.5 (and I do prefer how Olympus puts the aperture ring on the distal end of the lens), but the focus is smooth and the optics are better.
