Didn't really want it, but got it.
Won an auction on a pretty used white Canon FD 2,8/300 L lens for 425 Euro.
So my first white and FD lens will come to town.
To raise funds, I think I have to sell some lenses. Thinking now which ones.
Maybe my Carl Zeiss Jena MC 1Q 2,8/180 and my CZJ MC 3,5/135 will have to go.

When I will stop to aquire new lenses, maybe I can get my Rollei 1,4/35 CLAd by trifox and in the future to convert the FD to EOS.

Is there a glassless EOS-FD adapter to be recommended in the meantime?

Most of the FD-EOS adapters have removeable glass, but then you turn your lens into a macro lens.

... @ 300mm it must not be that severe

Adapters with optics will not make the full aperture @ 2.8 usable. I think they start @ 5.6

In this case way to go by Trifox I think , convert lens to EOS by him.

Yes - I would do this.

If the lens is in good condition it is worth to pay for the conversion. If you paid the amount in your first post for the lens it was nearly a bargain and then it makes sense to do this. Highly recommended. Stan (trifox) and his partner have an excellent professionell quality - no tinker !

Forget the adapters. Without glass you can´t reach infinity, with glass you will lose to much of the quality.

Otherwise I would buy the lens Rolling Eyes

As I see your conversions, this would be the best way to go.
Have to save money for that.
Going into deep with physical optics, taking the old formula:

1/f=1/g+1/b with f=focal length, g=focussing distance, b= focal length+adapter thickness

solving to focussing distance:
g=(f*b)/(b-f)

register difference EF to FD is 2mm
assumed adapter thickness = 3mm
b = 2mm + 3mm = 5mm
f= 300mm

g=(300mm*305mm)/(305mm-300mm)= 18300mm = 18.3 m

So with assumed adapter thickness of 3mm, I get max. focussing distance at 18.3m.
If I take assumed adapter thickness of 8mm, I even get to 9.3 m

So for the meantime this should work.

You could make a thin adapter like I did:

or sell it to me 'Smile'

Hi dickb,
this lens I will never sell, as it is one of Canon's best tele lenses.
... but you could sell your tiny adapter to me Wink
In which country do you live?

That sure is a nice price for such a lens, even if a conversation is pretty costly.

I live in the Netherlands. I'm not selling my adapter yet - I like using it with my 85/1.2, 200/4 macro and even the 24/1.4. Maybe if/when I make an improved version of it - my most recent attempt was very thin but not completely planparallel. Maybe we should get Alex in HK to produce them in larger quantities.

Canon's supertelephotos focus past infinity so you'll actually get a little more focusing range than the above calculations would indicate.

I have a thin adapter I bought from E-Bay that would probably work better than a thicker adapter. Though It lacks a to actuate the aperture stop-down lever.

One 300mm, cannot have any problem to change the mount to EOS. It is necessary to take him only 2mm and put a mount EOS.
The last glass should be far from the mirror. Wink

What Rolf and Attila say, is correct, I have seen photos of the work finished of trifox, and it is exelente.

425 Euro - that sounds realy cheap Shocked
I paid ~ two years ago 850 for mine (with tax and shipping) - and got some fungus too Mad
But not the original 48 mm filter, only a cheap one Evil or Very Mad

I have converted my lens by myself (German site)
http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/Canon-FD300-2.8-EF-Umbau.html
This lens is not easy to convert to EOS. I have the minor limtation that I could use f-stops 2.8 to 16 (I have to update it on my site) not darker.
