I don't know the weight of the camera you're using, the 100-400 weighs 1380g which is a little over 3 pounds. This Gimbal head carries up to 7.5 pounds so I don't think you'd have a problem.
As for landscape orientation, I'm not sure until it arrives. Personally, I just couldn't resist the price so I have to live with it if it doesn't.
Edit: after a bit more reading I think an extension is needed for landscape orientation. Prices vary.
Edit II: what am I saying? As long as the tripod bracket on the lens moves there's no issue. I'm going to be using this with my Tair-3 which has a tripod mount which turns, so no problem there. _________________ Gary

works perfect and i have no problem hanging a Canon 1Ds Mark III and a Canon 300mm f2.8L IS from its swing arm. With complete confidence I might add......
Thanks for the heads up."
If the $40 one I have coming turns out to be totally crap, I know what I'll get next.

My Gimbal has landed. First impressions are good, it's clearly solidly built and the movements are silky smooth. Time will tell if it stays that way. I'll give it a workout at the end of the month when the falconry displays resume at the local castle. I hope it will help save my arms when shooting with the Tair-3.

Yes it does, which isn't a problem with the two lenses I intend to use this with. I expect there would be a problem if your lens tripod mount doesn't rotate, unless an extension could be attached to this Gimbal. I've seen such extensions for sale but I have no idea if they would be compatible with this Gimbal.
Hope that helps. _________________ Gary

It was free shipping but I had to pay £15 at this end, import duty or something like that.
Still a bargain though. _________________ Gary

There's one here http://thrilledhouse.com/flashpoint-mounting-extension-and-plate-assembly-for-gimbal-head/thhopr/x0xzj3 though I'm not keen on the price and don't see how it attaches.
There are Gimbal heads here http://www.ukphotodistro.co.uk/quality-gimbal-heads.html which look identical to mine and have the extension in place. I haven't really searched for the actual extension much because I don't need one. Maybe they could be found cheaper on places like ebay. _________________ Gary
