Very clever modification! I wonder if similar techniques would work for other electronically unsalvageable AF lenses?
Well almost anything is possible with enough time; effort; tools; and money.
Focus by wire will be the hardest to bring back to life as a manual lens, I would look at transplanting in this case, assuming the optical block is a single unit it could be quite easy to transplant if you have the right tools.
Lenses with floating elements(close range correction, image stabilization...) may lose those functions and requite fixing them in position. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...
