I read a review somewhere recently which stated that the Nex-7 had better high ISO performance than the NX200. I can't for the life of me remember where it was though!
The Nex-7 has much less noise than the A65 though, due to the mirror issues. Whilst not quite as clean as the Nex-5n, it's still way better than the Nex-3 and Nex-5 according to DXOMark, a site I rate highly based on my experience with multiple cameras.
Sorry to hear about your current Nex Ian _________________ Graham - Moderator

I didn't realise mirror in A65 caused more noise, makes sense as it does cut some light transmission to sensor.
As much as I've grown to like my NEX-3, it really isn't very suitable for dragging about the countryside like I do, such a fragile plastic thing. Robustness is quite important to me. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

ian if you value both robustness and compactness, let me suggest the olly ep2 with external vf. tbh, the build quality, comparitively to other competitors, is stellar. you must know how much i love my x100. but interms of build quality between the two, its not close. the ep2 is heavy, solid, substantial, even though it can fit in your coat pocket. there is nothing plastic-y or cheap-feeling about it. it may be the only compact that can survive 'real life' rigorous treatment. _________________ Epson RD1 + Elmarit 21/2.8; Summarit 50/1.5; Summarit 75/2.5; Elmar-c 90/4; Sankyo Komura 135/2.8, Hektor 135/4.5; Braun Paxina 29 6x6; Photax Boyer Paris; Holga 120 Pano

I haven't looked at the details, but I've heard that the NEX-7 doesn't have that much less noise than the A77 (which has the same sensor). What the translucent mirror does seem to do though is decrease the MTF in the vertical direction, so high frequency detail in the vertical direction will be less sharp. [unofficial source] It also causes flares in night shots. |

That's good to know about the ep-2, I'm not fond of the smaller sensor vs the NEX though, but I might consider one. How is the ep-1 in build quality? Those are starting to become cheap on ebay now.
I have wondered if it's possible to remove the mirror from a DSLT cam as it's only there to enable the AF system and therefore of no use to MF lens users? _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

All the evidence points to the Nex-7 being cleaner than the a77 so far, but as you say the Nex looks sharper too e.g.

NEX5, 5N and 7 have a magnesium alloy body and I believe and feel that my 5N is very robust. _________________ my photos on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/collections |
