I've been trying macro frost pictures this fall.
The play of sun and ice is the whole point of these shots, and metering has been a challenge. Usually I try to avoid clipped highlights, but if I underexpose enough to keep the sparkly ice crystals from blowing out, the rest of the image suffers.
I'm tempted to expose for the scene and let highlights blow if necessary. If perfectly white ice crystals come out 100% white in the image, that's probably an acceptable outcome.
A few clipped highlights here, I don't think it harms the image, opinions?
I may have to embrace the dark side and try some discreet HDR _________________ I welcome C&C, editing my pics and reposting them on the forum is fine.
