I've already heard about this kind of "method", used to gain the necessary space on the 5D for particular manual lenses...but surely it simply looks crazy i hope the mirror won't be affected, btw good luck and have fun with manual focus lenses on it! |

It is not THAT crazy IMO, not too difficult to do afterward of course.
When I bought EOS_5D, I was dreaming to use all those Prakticars
without any crop(crap?) factor.
Since I am still a Prakticar collector so that I have to show some examples
shot by those CZJ lenses, which are relatively unknown to photographic
community. So I willingly become a scapegoat or guinea pig.
I have just shot with Planar 55/1.2 at wide open.

Indeed it's a cool idea i often think about how could my lens would look on the full frame, surely i won't need to use 28-35s as cropped 50s
Overall my 135 Tak would became more suitable
Hmmm full frame is temptating >_< and i already have a 40D |

Also you can use these lenses at infinity range,
Flektogon 20/2.8, Flektogon 25/4, Pancolar 80/1.8, Pancolar 50/1.8(?),
PORST AUTO 1.2/55 (K-mount), EF-mounted Canon FD 55/1.2 S.S.C.,
EF-mounted MC Rokkor-PG 58/1.2, EF-mounted MC Rokkor-PF 50/1.4,
EF-mounted MC Rokkor-PF 85/1.7, SMC Takumar 50/1.4, CJZ tessar 50/2.8,
AND all the Prakticars.
And possibly some other C/Y lenses, though Prakticars are my main goal of
mirror shaving. Yes ePay seller's PB->EF adaptor helps a lot here too. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

Just curious...since the mirror is a moving part, is there any chance that the cracked mirror may shatter sometime in the future? Otherwise...that was a mighty gutsy bit of DIY! |

It might.
5D's mirror had many incidents of dropping under very high humid
environment, though I did not hear any more of this problem.
The thin mirror (seems glass) is glued to rubber like material,
which supports the mirror and sub-mirror. It maybe a compound of
rubber and hard plastic, this is hard to shave due to its softness. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.
