Found a very nice lens, but there is a lot of fungus

Not sure if it is worth taking a punt what would you say is worth paying for this in this condition?

Looking at listings on ebay reveal "mint" and "near mint" copies for $250-300. For the fungus lens which does look cleanable but not without leaving minor marks I might pay $100-125. There is one listing (love the tie-dye!) bin $199 with good optics but significant paint loss -- I might pay $150.

There's something about the fungus pattern that makes me think it's going to leave its mark. I actually checked to see if the front element was a doublet, as some of it kinda has that 'petal' look of lens cement breakdown, at the edges of the fungus. I don't think it is though. And if that is a deep scratch across the front element, I'd look for a hood for it.

If you're looking for value, personally, I'd keep an eye out for a horrible looking lens with good optics.

Personally I wouldn't buy it at all. I might buy a lens with a sticky aperture when the price is right because I can have it fixed. But once a fungus is in your lens, it is very hard to get rid of.

If you will work like a Pro (or if you are one) take it.

It seems to be good as a tool. The pics taken with it never will reveal the fungus problem at all.

But if you play (like almost all of us) with lenses remind that the resale value will be low. And we don't know how much.

Good luck

If the price is right that fungus will easily clean off IME. Possibly leaving some extremely slight mark/discoloration on the coatings but nothing that will affect iq.
I use a drop or two of household mould and mildew cleaner in a little meths. Something with detergent properties IME works better than just a solvent.
