Hello Fellas!
Today I received this 1.4 85mm lens, made in Germany. Bought it for $455 on Ebay.
Barrel and glass are in excellent condition and mount has only very slight signs of use. That's the good news!

But the Aperature blades show signs of oil when seen from behind, and when I adjust the aperature down then after 2-3 stops the blades will suddenly snap down into a closed position beyond F16.

This 'snapping shut' only happens while adjusting the F stop down, not up.

The description on Ebay was that the aperature was 'smooth and firm'

Before returning this lens, which in other respects looks so good, I'd very much appreciate any advice you may have about the advisability of having it repaired. Anybody know the likely cause of the problem?

Need to clean blades I think ask local service about cost and decide , here cleaning cost around 30-40 USD.

A professional CLA is very highly recommended with such an expensive lens!

Thanks Attila, I've found a local repair shop and will see what they say.

Until the lens arrived I was very happy with the price I'd got it for, so 30-40 bucks would not be too discouraging... provided that the lens then is 100% OK.
I've not experienced this blade problem with any lens before, so I appreciate all the good advice I can get ! Smile

LP, I in fact do not know what a CLA is !

And by the way, to correct my first post, I now see the slippage also happens when adjusting the F stop up.

Just back from the local camera specialists; their verdict was that some screws on a ring controlling blade operation needed tightening. Price estimate (we're on the west coast of Florida) $125.

So for the moment I'd rather be in Budapest ! Cool
