I think the tube helped the lens to achieve the bokeh but Tessar 2.8/45 is a magic formula - simple optical design which reduces aberrations at minimum + Zeiss clarity and colours -- all packed in one! 
This one and Contax Distagon 2.8/21 they both have almost identical colour rendition .. warm and very pleasant to my eyes ..
