I am also in the same shoe like you.
I have done some checking through various sites. I think one of the question is what G lens you intend to use on NEX. If you are using 35mm, 45mm, and 90mm. Pretty much any adapter will do. But it you want to use 21mm and 28mm you need to be careful. From what I read, some adapters will work with 21mm and not 28mm and vice versa and some will not work with either. As for 16mm, I don't think any adapter currently will work with it.
By the way, not sure if you are aware there is a digital rangefinder section in the forum (http://forum.mflenses.com/digital-rangefinder-viewfinder-cameras-f24.html) and even one subsection dedicated to Nex (http://forum.mflenses.com/digital-rangefinder-viewfinder-cameras-f35.html). _________________

Thanks for info.
Yes I m aware of the digital RF section.
Just recently, I got two Zeiss: Biogon 28/2.8 and Sonnar 90/2.8. These are my first Contax G. I tried to limit myself to 5 mounts, but cannot say no to a good offer - some day I need to have these anyway, why wait..
There are many vendors making the contax G adapter. I need one that can do smoothly focus, prefer fine/long focus throw if exist. Also the biogon has rear element and protection plastic piece sticking out. I would like to let the lens as is, not to cut the protection as some cheap adapter needs to.
Anyone? what's your adapter? _________________ La migliore cura di LBA imparare una nuova lingua. Le meilleur remde de LBA est d'apprendre une nouvelle langue. La mejor cura del LBA es aprender una nueva lengua. |

If you take off the Biogon before taking off the adapter, it should not interfere with the camera. Most people here use Metabones/Shogun or Kipon adapter. Search them in the web and you should be able some comparisons between them. _________________ https://lensfever.com/

Thanks Calvin.
I checked both yesterday.
Metabones is complicated, but seems it has good quality. ~140usd.
Kipon is more simple, but has a mixed review. ~100usd.
Anyone used ContaxG to Nex from ebay BigIs ? ~60usd. _________________ La migliore cura di LBA imparare una nuova lingua. Le meilleur remde de LBA est d'apprendre une nouvelle langue. La mejor cura del LBA es aprender una nueva lengua. |

Just wondering... if you have reviewed Metabones' instruction video?

Yes I've seen this video. I was looking at it when i got my Metabones adapter and had lots of troubles trying to properly align the lenses to it.
What they show here is how to mount the Sonnar. Around 10s in the video you can see the lock button - this one you cannot use when you mount Biogons as they can be attached only when the adapter is already mounted to the camera body.

I have the el cheapo 29€ adapter from ebay.

It's identical with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl0Y-7UhZf8&feature=related
I'm happy with it, even when focusing is not completly smooth.
But I guess the Metabones adapter is a lot better. _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester

I see... The NEX version's lock is spring loaded. So, you may "pre-lock" it and mount on the camera body first and then mount the lens.
Without a doubt, the locking mechanism was harder to use than other adapters, but that is necessary to make room for the wide focusing ring. |

I had a direct comparision with the el cheapo chinese for 29€ and the expensive kipon. The kipon is nearly the same and has exactly the same problems as the cheap adapter. Focusing works ok with both for me with the 28 and 35mm and both are sometimes a little stiff and humpy with the 90/2.8.
My recommendation: Take the cheap chinese or get the metabones adapter! _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester
