evening everyone:) came across this on a local ad and I'm just wondering if I should go for it, I only have a vivitar 28mm 2.5 that I don't use all that often as I'm not a huge fan of the IQ.

I was planning on getting a Minolta 28mm 2.5 as there is one at a local dealer but I'm not sure which would be the better choice.

they both around $50 which is decent for either but with the the Jena i would have to buy an extra adapter, I think Pentax from the photo that is listed

I could buy both as the prices aren't bad but if the Jena is as good then I don't see the point as I have a Olympus 24mm 2.8 and a Konica 35mm 2.8 that I use quite often already but I am missing a good 28mm lens.

This lens is not Made by zeiss in jena, iirc it is a rebranded japanese lens (probably made by cosina and
I Don't have any direct experience with it, but I'd be extremely surprised if it performed better than the minolta 28/2.5 - which is a lens I really like.
And, btw, 50$ for that minolta is a good price, so I wouldn't hesitate and buy it.

many thanks on the info and on the plus side I wouldn't have to buy a Pentax adaptor again (sold mine as I wasn't a huge fan of the Pentax lenses I had)

I have really started appreciating Minolta lenses after I bought a 50mm F2 because of foreignseils good words about it.

another question as I see from his list of lenses he has available there is also the Minolta 28mm 2.8 and 3.5 would the lens 2.5 still be the best choice out of the options?

If it is the Japanese Zeiss, then it's best left on the shelf. It's OK but nothing to get excited about. The Minolta will beat it hands down.

I had one 28/3.5 - I know there are a couple of versions of it.
It was good, but the f2.5 is better.
Can't speak about the f2.8 or other versions of the f3.5 though.

I had that Cosina 'Zeiss' and it's mediocre at best. The Minolta 3.5/28, the older 7 elements version, is probably the best 28mm you can buy short of a Zeiss T* Distagon. I have one and the Konica Hexanon 3.5/28 with 7 elements and they are both wonderful, the Minolta has slightly better coatings, but otherwise, they are neck and neck.

I have the non macro version of the CZJ in MD, and I'll choose my MC 28/2.5 any day over it, it's my favorite 28 next to my Elmarit M 28 which is 10x the price.

I had a chance to play with Rokkor 28 2.5 and decided that I feel about it very much the same way I feel about similarly sized Vivitar 28/2.5, that is I'd choose Sigma Mini-Wide or Tokina EL over it any day of the week.

Maybe I should ask him if I can try them all out for a day or two, I've bought quite a bit from him so I don't think he will give me too much hassle.

Gardener, strangely enough I had a Tokina RMC 28mm that I foolishly sold, was too date the nicest 28mm I had used.

Yes, probably trying it out is the best choice, as personal taste may play a major role in choosing between some good ones.
The RMC Tokina is a nice little lens, super good for its going prices, and the sigma mini-wide is good too. But for my taste the rokkor f2.5 is much better.
Well, however, I guess we all agree that you should leave that japanese jena where it is.

The Rokkor 28/3.5 7 elements is a very good lens indeed. It is the Rokkor MC 28 3.5 SG as opposed to the MD version. This lens is easy to find and cheap.

well a 28mm 3.5 SG version popped up here for a good price so I'm just get both;) another lens I saw but can't find any info on is a rokkor QE 200mm f5, really can't find a single thing? Confused

Minolta 28/2.5 was a top notch, fastest, breaktrough 28mm lens back in it's time for Minolta and direct predecessor, the 28/2.Therefore it has more than usual glass elements for this fl,thoriated lens for improved IQ included. All incarnations of 28/2.8 and 28/3.5 were more or less budget lenses,so 28/2.5 is a different league somehow.

It has significantly more character to it ,compared to the rest of 28mm MD lenses, even the 28/2.

I like the first shot very much out of them, well the guy was nice enough to let me take the 2.5 for $30:D it had a small spot of fungus that took about 10min to clean off so I'm super happy!! still waiting for the auction on the 3.5 to end so I'll be able to compare if I win it.

definitely liking the 2.5 so far, its a gloomy day so ill take it out for a comparison with the vivitar as soon as I get a chance.
