For just $20.00 I think you should just buy it yourself and show US! Laughing

+1 Laughing Okay it's not what you'd call fast at f/5.6 but for $20?

Seeing as I own over 200 lenses & lost count of # of bodies I do not want to buy another lens that I may not use,f-stop is not really as important as quality of optics, that is why I asked opinion of forum members who may have pics taken with this lens, after all I believe that is why I became a supporting member??.

I seem to recall some earlier threads about this lens, complete with photos. Have you tried using the search function here?

Sorry if I upset you Confused

I find using Google will often give better search results than the search function here. Perhaps your neighbour would let you test it out if not. I get suspicious about brand new looking lenses which are actually 30-40 years old sometimes.

This must have been the thread I was thinking of. Note that he's using the second version of the 100-300/5.6, which from reports I've read, is optically superior to the first version.

How do you tell the two apart? Well the first version looks like a typical Canon New FD zoom, albeit kind of long, with the standard sort of grid pattern on the rubber grip. And I also don't believe it has a macro setting. The second one has more of a matte finish, the grip pattern has changed, and overall it just look more plasticky. But it does take better pics than the first version.

No knowledge, but I'd guess at 20 bucks it won't be great, but worth a risk perhaps.

Having said that, I am shooting with an AE-1 at present and I probably wouldn't bother with it.

For specific Canon FD questions it would be better to go to a dedicated Canon FD forum:-

Do a search there e.g. http://photo.net/canon-fd-camera-forum/0097Lj

I think it's a good lens ...

I have got 100-300 f5.6 L version and that rocks..

I understand that the non L version may be slightly worse ,, but I would not underestimated it

In other words, I would probably buy it, kryss!

Suffered a bad LBA attack and bought it.

Well, since you bought it, and since you have the Tamron 60-300, I for one would be interested in seeing comparison photos. I bought my first Tamron 60-300 in the mid-80s because I thought it was clearly superior to the 1st version Canon. As I recall it was more expensive than the Canon back then, too -- I paid over $300 for the Tamron (1985 dollars). So let us know something.

Ok Michael will do but the Canon lens will go on my Pentax 20D with an FD - Pentax K adapter so I will probably take glass out but will not be able to get infinity.

That's fine. You can get what the lens thinks is infinity, which is just as good.
