That lens is simply awesome!
I wish there where more lenses like this Smile
Unfortunately lens lens was used stopped down here up to F16 and 1/13-1/160s so these samples are not optimal for pixel peeping Wink

it appears this could be the best zeiss glass i a while. the 35/2 on my rx1 is very close, but i think this 55 is a bit better.

The bokeh now sometimes reminds slightly me of Jupiter-3 50/1.5, especially when used in potrait distance.
Like the 50/1.5 Sonnar the bokeh is a little wild wide open.
Wide open performance of that lens is the best I've ever had with any lens and IQ get's overhelming good at F4 from corner to corner, technically even slightly beats Summicron-M 50/2 or Zeiss ZM Planar 50/2 and other fancy manual lenses, lens is simply incredible

Sony A7, Sonnar 55/1.8, Yonguo YN560II+small softbox on camera, two cheap chinese studio flashes as slaves for sides and background, background is only simple crinkly white bed sheet tissue
All 3 are OOC B/W JPEGs.

One more sample to show some more bokeh (also wide open)

Only major drawback I found on the lens so far is that in contrasty light the contrast of the picture can be unnaturaly strong and you have to push blacks and whites a lot to get more details, which can make pic look even more unnatural.
Today I had problems with over-saturrated blacks like in this sample without any PP: https://www.flickr.com/photos/54671350@N02/13611331984/in/photostream/lightbox/ , in all samples from above I had to recover much from black holes and outburned white areas. In bad light this could be a huge benifit though.

Nice one! Btw the dog shots seem to be a bit oversaturated for me; is it the lens or just the processing? (I had the same feeling when browsing pics made with Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 16-80mm ZA on flickr. My ZE Planar seems to work a bit differently.)

@Mark - I like it a tad oversaturrated, I had my "vivid" filter in camera activated

It made me unhappy.
After getting it the sharpness of all my beloved older lenses seems, suddenly, poorer. Sad

There are many other things apart from resolution and contrast. Wink
