Is it? I'm going to have a closer look at my zenit lenses. I never use then at infinity, but I'll check now. I thought the register was the same as M42.

There is an ongoing argument about this. These numbers are taken from what I believe to be authoritative Russian sources. However others, presumably quoting what they believe to be reliable sources, suggest that the two numbers are the same. My own experience with, for example, the MIR-1 2.8/37 suggests that there is a real difference between the M39 (silver) and the M42 (black) registration distances.

Does anyone have the registration data for the Pentax 110 slr.
At some stage I want to build a G1 M4/3 mount for the 18,24,and 50mm lenses I have.
Otherwise I will have to work on a trial and error basis.
Sure I know these lenses don't have a built in iris but as they were obviously designed to work correctly with the aperature adjustment behind the rear element it should be possible to make the adapter to present a fixed f5.6 or f8 aperature.
Will it be worth the effort?
Just a challenge really.

Where does this site get its information from ? It quotes Zenit 3M as 45.5.
Presumably the factory got it wrong when it wrote the manual... ?

I prefer to believe KMZ. So... if the cornell site has got it wrong for the Zenit 3M how many of its other numbers can you believe ?

Thanks for that sichko.
I expect when these M4/3 adapters for some of the more obscure lenses are available they will sell at eye watering prices due to limited demand.
For standard 4/3 users the the price of the adapters from China available via ebay is so low that it is not worth the effort of making your own
Engineering various mounts and adapters is something I can do when its not possible be outside with a camera.
I too live in the South west UK (Taunton) so you will know how much time I have been forced to stay indoords this year!

Yes indeed ! I'm a little northwest - the other side of the channel in Swansea.

Hi John
It seems I own quite a few of the lenses on your list
How do you use the m42 types on your Nikon. Do you just accept the lack of infinity focus.
Ive been collecting various lenses for around 2 years to use on my Pentaxes.
A few months ago I bought an Oly 510 twin lens kit on behalf of a friend and had a few days to play with it before handing it over.
Nice little camera but I would not have been tempted to abandon Pentax.
I was however rather envious of the ease when using 4/3 I could mount virtually every lens in my collection via adapters costing around £10 on average.
The G1 extends the choice even further

I use a glass adapter for infinity focus with M42. I'm quite happy with the results but - for reasons I can't quite understand - I'm trying to move away from M42. I've got the Russian xxxN lenses which have automatic aperture. The "A" lenses are preset but they have a Nikon mount and give infinity without glass. The Pentacon 6 lenses give infinity with a simple mechanical adapter. And if I sell all my M42s I can probably afford a couple of Nikkors. And then I think that I must forget about buying new lenses for a while and spend more time with the ones that I've got !

ALL of my M39 lenses confirm the different register distance. The wider the angle, the bigger the difference in focus scale. Tair-11 135mm focuses almost infinity, maybe to 30-40 meters. Mir-1 37mm only to 5-7 meters.
